“Awareness allows us to get outside of our mind and
observe it in action.” Dan Brule
As I started on this journey, I decided I was going to totally dedicate myself to this work for 6 months and not read too widely or seek too many other opinions. This for me is very difficult as I am a bit of an information junkie and I love new ideas. But there is also a lot of freedom around this choice. It gave me the space to really engage and to bring it into all walks of my life.
The first simple understanding John Kehoe gives us, is we live in 2 worlds. An inner world and an outer world. The inner world is our thoughts and our outer world is the physical, ‘whats happening in my life’, at this moment. Often these two worlds aren’t in sync. He gives the easiest example of this when he spoke of how often when we are driving our cars, that our minds are anywhere other than being fully present in the car.
He suggested every day we set an alarm to check in on where our thoughts are. Are they fully present with whatever we are doing at that moment? I have done this numerous times before but the challenge this time was to recognise if I was living in my inner world in some kind of reaction to my outer world. Was I at any time still mulling over something that happened a couple of hours previously? Ooops and I was.
Just looking at Mindfulness through the eyes of MindPower is really refreshing and has already shown me many areas I can improve and change. It has really given me a lift. So many of the things I love about Mindfulness are taking on a new energy with the view through the Mindpower lens.
